What is TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation):

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. As a certified NeuroStar® provider, we use the advanced NeuroStar system — a leading, evidence-based TMS therapy — to deliver precise, targeted stimulation in a safe, controlled, and comfortable setting.

NeuroStar TMS is a well-established treatment option, with over 7.9 million treatments performed in more than 216,000 patients nationwide. In real-world clinical use, 83% of patients who completed a full NeuroStar treatment cycle experienced a measurable improvement in depression symptoms, and 62% achieved remission, meaning they likely would no longer meet diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder.

NeuroStar TMS offers a powerful alternative for individuals with depression or other mood disorders who have not found sufficient relief with traditional treatments. Unlike medications, it does not affect the entire body, making it generally well tolerated with minimal side effects. This is especially meaningful when compared to research such as the STAR*D study, which found that the likelihood of remission decreases with each additional medication trial. NeuroStar TMS provides a different path forward — one that can support lasting improvements in mood, focus, and overall mental well-being.

WHAT IS TMS?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to activate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It’s designed to help lift your spirits and support emotional well-being, providing a safe and effective option for those seeking relief from depression and related conditions.

HOW IS TMS DIFFERENT?

TMS works directly on the part of the brain that helps regulate mood. By targeting depression at its neurological source, it offers a focused, non-invasive approach to support emotional well-being.

IS TMS SAFE?

Clinical studies have demonstrated that NeuroStar TMS Therapy® is a safe and effective treatment for individuals whose depression has not responded to previous antidepressant medications. This non-invasive therapy targets the brain directly, offering hope and relief for those seeking a new approach to managing their mood and emotional well-being.

Some common questions about our TMS therapy

1 / How is TMS different from other therapies?

TMS works differently than medications or talk therapy. Medications aren’t always easy to personalize — they may not work for some people due to genetics and can come with uncomfortable or even significant side effects. Talk therapy is valuable, but when depression symptoms are severe, it can be harder to fully participate and benefit. TMS goes straight to the source. It gently stimulates the area of the brain involved in mood regulation, treating depression at its neurological root.

2 / Does TMS hurt?

During the session, you will feel a tapping sensation on your head. Each treatment session lasts around 19 minutes. Some NeuroStar patients experience mild to moderate pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site during the first week of treatment.

3 / Is TMS therapy an effective treatment for depression?

If you’ve tried treatment for depression but haven’t found the relief you need, you’re not alone. NeuroStar TMS Therapy is clinically proven to significantly improve symptoms of depression.
